Quinton Eugene German Sr.

December 21, 1944 - July 1, 2013

Quinton Eugene German Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away in his home on July 1, 2013 at the age of 68 from cancer. He was born on December 21, 1944 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Alfred Coupar German and Helen Beatrice Reames. He loved growing up in a small town where everyone knew each other’s name. He graduated from Hutchinson High School ‘64 and University of Colorado ’67, paying for school by working construction, something he remembered fondly. In 1967, he joined the United States Air Force and attended Officer’s Training School at Lackland AFB Texas, where he met his wife, Vivian Allene Mease, a fellow officer. They were married on August 3, 1968 at Alameda Naval Air Station, California. To receive a joint assignment, they volunteered for a Vietnam tour and were stationed in Bangkok, Thailand 1968-1970. During his 20 year military career, he worked in transportation and logistics, commanded 2 squadrons, served in several staff officer positions and attained the rank of Major. He was stationed at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, Albrook AFB, Panama, Travis AFB, California, Ramstein AFB, Germany, Bentwaters AFB, England and Shaw AFB, South Carolina. Some of his happiest times were spent as a Boy Scout leader, participating in its Wood Badge program and attending multiple International Scout Jamborees while serving in the Transatlantic Council. After he retired from the Air Force, he moved to his beloved Woodland Hills, Utah and vowed to never leave. He loved his friends and small community and was happy to methodically perform small acts of kindness throughout the neighborhood. He leaves behind a legacy of service and friendship. He enjoyed serving in his church and was an extraordinarily talented craftsman, happiest when building, repairing, and helping others. He was a man of action, not words. He was particularly well known for his love of woodworking and gift giving. His friends and family all have special wooden gifts made just for them. He is survived by his wife, Vivian, their two children and spouses, and grandchildren: Melonie Lyn (Jean Semadeni) and Quinton Eugene, Jr. (Heidi Morgan) and grandchildren Gabriel Semadeni, Maren and Porter German. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara Phillips (Tom) and Shirley Rutherford (Sheldon). Funeral services will be held on July 8, 2013 at 11:00am at the Woodland Hills Chapel, 220 S. Woodland Hills Drive, in Woodland Hills, Utah. Viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30am. Interment will follow the service at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah.
