R L Peay

April 21, 1950 - June 3, 2021

Major RL Peay passed away on June 3, 2021 at the age of 71 due to fronto temporal dementia. He was born April 21, 1950 in Provo, Utah. Son of Edward Lambson and Leola Adams Peay. He graduated from Provo High School in 1968 and went on to receive an Associate Degree in Electronics from Utah Technical College one year after high school. Later, he graduated from University of Phoenix with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, and then two Masters Degrees including an MBA in Global Management and a Master’s of Arts in Organizational Management. RL joined the Army in June 1969 and graduated from the US Army Infantry Officer Candidate School, Advanced Field Artillery Course and United States Command and General Staff College. He excelled in the military. After 22 years of military service, he retired as a Major. He served in Japan and Korea as well as in the states. RL married Lisa Tweedie, the love of his life, on April 29, 1987. They had two children, Rashelle Nicole (Alex) Godfrey and Juston James Peay. He is also survived by his son, Steven Edward (Tera) Peay, and grandchildren Morgyn and Lily Peay. RL worked for American Express, retiring after 28 years of service. He was also a boy scout leader and was the Merit Badge Advisor to the Utah National Parks Council Advancement Committee and Chairman of the Merit Badge Subcommittee. RL loved all sports especially archery, tennis, basketball, football, table tennis, and was an avid outdoorsman.. He competed in tennis and archery and won 22 tournaments in one year in archery, taking 3rd place in the Utah State Championship in 1967. He loved to travel, visiting many parts of the world including Canada, Mexico, Central America, Asia, Thailand and Vietnam. He was an active NRA member, was NRA certified rifle and pistol instructors and Range Control Officer. RL was an Elder and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife and children, sister Gayla, nieces and nephews. He is deceased by his parents, brother Edward and wife Alta Peay, and sister Roselee Springer. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 12:00 noon in the Cedar Hills Stake Center, 3950 West Cedar Hills Drive, Cedar Hills, Utah, with a viewing one hour prior. Viewing also held on Friday from 7-9 pm at the same location. Burial in the Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 South Redwood Road, Bluffdale, Utah.
