Richard Lee Stoney

December 8, 1954 - January 1, 2022

Fielding, UT – Rich Stoney passed away on Saturday January 1, 2022. Rich was born December 08, 1954 to Dorene Stoney, (Bill Stoney) in Ogden, UT. He was raised in Harrisville, UT where he attended Weber High School. He married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Suzann Taylor on May 18, 1973 in Plain City, UT and were sealed for time and all eternity on May 18, 1974 in the Ogden, UT Temple. Rich was a cowboy thru and thru. He had a passion for bull riding that he passed down to many generations. He succeeded in his dream to become a world champion in November 1994, when he won the National Senior Pro Rodeo’s bull riding world championship. Rich was a Respiratory Therapist and a High School Health Occupations teacher. He loved teaching the students at Bonneville High School for over 20 years, where he made life long friendships with many of his students and colleagues. Rich loved his family and spent as much time with them as possible. He and his wife Suzann loved riding the motorcycle and hunting rocks in the St. George desert. Rich was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities over the years for the church including being a service missionary in St. George, UT. Rich is survived by his children: Jackson Stoney (Andrea), Garland, UT, Josh Stoney, Brigham City, UT, Jesi Phoenix (Jeremy), Fielding, UT; mother: Dorene Stoney; grandchildren: Kamri Teaupa (Kaina) Lehi, UT, Chance Phoenix, Garland, UT, Koleman Stoney, St. George, UT, Kauter Grimshaw, St. George, UT, Rye Phoenix (Lexi), Garland, UT, Sage Phoenix, Fielding, UT, Violet Walsh, Garland, UT; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers JR Stoney (Leann), Caliente, NV, David Stoney, Ogden, UT. He is proceeded in Death by his wife Suzann Stoney and father Bill Stoney. A memorial service will be held at the East Chapel, 2280 N 3600 W, Plain City, Utah 84404, on Saturday January 8, 2022 at 10:30 am. Interment will be held at the Plain City Cemetery following the memorial.
