Sue Marie Hill
June 10, 1950 - August 4, 2016
Sue Marie Hill 1950 – 2016 Sue Marie Hill (Susan Hanks) was born June 10, 1950 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Victor Franklin Hanks and Marjorie Burke Hanks. She peacefully passed away in her home due to complications from Ovarian Cancer, Aug. 4 surrounded by her husband, Marv Hill and their six daughters, Bethany, Julie, Shellie, Carrie, Marcy, and Traci. Sue grew up in Lincoln, Idaho, graduated Bonneville High School in 1968 and attended Ricks College, Idaho State University, and BYU, majoring in history and education. She was the middle of five siblings, two brothers Larry (Georgia) Hanks, Cottonwood Heights, Utah, Richard (Sherry) Hanks, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and three sisters Patricia Scott, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Sherrie (Dan) Lance, Kaysville, Utah, Peggy (Rod) Bowman, Kaysville, Utah. Favorite memories of her childhood were going to Grandma Burke’s and swimming in the front yard during irrigation season, playing with cousins and enjoying big family dinners. Grandma would give her pop bottles to recycle for candy. She loved her Grandparents. She met the love of her life, Marv in 1973 in Idaho Falls where they loved square dancing and taking rides in his convertible MGB. They were married in 1974 and soon expected their first daughter Bethany. They continued to grow their family and had Julie in 1977, Shellie in 1980, Carrie in 1983 and Marcy in 1985. They sold their plumbing business, moved to St. George, Utah in May of 1985 and completed their family by adding Traci in 1987. The warmth of the climate as well as their new friends provided a welcoming environment for their family. Fun memories were bike riding, hiking, playing baseball in the park, picnics, camping and just spending time together. In 1996 they moved to the Salt Lake Area and found their home in Farmington, Utah where they have resided for 12 years. Sue was able to stay home to raise her girls and enjoyed several hobbies such as sewing, tole painting, scrapbooking, reading, and family history. She loved traveling to many foreign places with Marv and always brought home souvenirs for “the girls.” She loved being a Nana to her 14 grandchildren and took them to movies, attended school performances, loved babysitting and of course spoiling them rotten. Sue had a great sense of humor. Sue was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2010 and begun the hardest, most valiant battle of her life fighting this horrible disease. Through many surgeries, chemo and other painful treatments she finally was able to get on top of her cancer. Late July of 2016, she suffered a debilitating stroke and complications with her disease which were not avoidable any longer. She is survived by her husband Marvin E Hill, Farmington, Utah, and daughters Bethany (Kevin) Nelson, Rigby, Idaho, Julie Janke (Al Rubenbauer) Bountiful, Utah, Shellie (McKay) Bates, North Salt Lake, Utah, Carrie (Carlos) Duarte Ramstein Base, Germany, Marcy Jarrell, Layton, Utah, Traci (Garrett) Nelson, North Salt Lake, Utah. She is proceded in death by her parents Victor F. Hanks and Marjorie Burke Hanks of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
