Thomas DeVerl Hurst

August 11, 2014 - August 18, 1947

Thomas D. Hurst, age 66, passed away August 11, 2014 at his home after a valiant life with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born in Salt Lake City, UT to H. DeVerl Hurst and Ethel Thomas Hurst. He was the youngest of their two children. He graduated from Granite High School in SLC, UT. He attended Snow College, Ricks College, and the University of Utah receiving a B.S. in Business Marketing and an M.B.A. degree. Tom was elected president of student government in the U of U College of Business, and he joined the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity where he made many lifelong friends. From 1967 to 1970 he honorably served an LDS mission to Quebec, Canada. In his younger years, Tom was active in the Salt Lake business community. He had his own business “Ties by Tom” and was a licensed Real Estate Agent earning a spot in the “Million Dollar Club” selling one million dollars of real estate within year 1976. He was on the Utah Independent Living Center Board of Directors. Tom was well known for his great sense of humor and his “joke of the day.” Survived by his sister, Karren Hurst Case, SLC; six nieces and nephews, Candace (Richard) Arkell, Christi (Daniel) Danielson, Robert (Kathy) Case, Daniel (Patricia) Case, Caren (Marcus) Hunter, and Leland (Emily) Case, Jr. He was also beloved by his 26 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A special thank you to all those who lovingly cared for Tom. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014, in the Little Cottonwood First Ward Chapel, 6350 S. Rodeo Lane, Murray, UT 84121. Friends may call at the ward chapel on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
