April 29, 2022
Turner Alvin Robie and Clara Bernice Robie Turner Alvin Robie “Al” and Clara Bernice Robie “Bernie” graduated from this life a few short feet and a few short hours apart from each other on Friday morning, April 29, 2022 in Provo, Utah. Al was born on June 4, 1932, to Kenneth Everett Robie and Dorothy Turner Robie in Sacramento California. Bernie was born on September 24, 1937, to William Burns Lyons and Vallie Estelle Liles Lyons in Las Vegas, Nevada. They met while Al served in the U.S. Air Force while stationed at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas. They attempted to marry on September 4, 1952, but an auto accident on the way to the wedding killed her father and broke Bernie’s nose. Undaunted, two weeks later on September 18, 1952, they married in Las Vegas. After his service in the Air Force they settled in Mountain View, California where they had three children and were introduced and accepted the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. They were both baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on May 6, 1961 and sealed to each other and were also sealed as a family for time and all eternity on June 8, 1963 in the Los Angeles Temple. For them, this was their crowning achievement. By choice and circumstance, they were virtually inseparable. While living in California, Al began long-haul trucking as an owner-operator. So that the family could see him more often, they moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma in June 1972. After their children graduated from Ardmore High School, Bernie joined Al trucking over the road and from then on, they were a team. They trucked together until they finally retired in 2012. Al was an avid hotrodder and a member of the Markley Bros. racing team that set a world record at Bonneville, as well as a gun enthusiast and expert marksman, winning many awards as a member of the Mountain View Police Dept. Shooting Team. He was also awarded a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, while working for Sylvania Defense Labs in Sunnyvale, California. Bernie was an avid reader, loved gardening, and being at the ocean. They are survived by their three children, Michelle McCauley (Charlie) of Martinez, California; Mark Robie (Gina) of Provo, Utah; and Robin Comer (Stan) of Springer, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. The family will be holding a celebration of life in the near future.
