Vera Margrethe Burgon
September 8, 1966 - May 2, 2018
Vera Margrethe (Greta) Knowlton Burgon 51, of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away unexpectedly on May 2, 2018 while surrounded by her loving family. Greta is survived by her two sons, Parker Steven Burgon and Tanner Knowlton Burgon, as well as co-parent and best friend, Steven Burgon. Greta is also survived by nine living siblings and her mother, Vera Nielsen of Salt Lake City. Born on September 8th, 1966 in Fairview, Utah, Greta brought spunk, sparkle, and surprise to her family. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and best friend. Greta graduated from Olympus High School in 1984 and continued her education at the University of Utah with studies in pre-med. While raising her boys, she also ran an in-home daycare business, opening her home to dozens of infants and toddlers. Greta was an ambitious trailblazer, whether wearing jeans, toolbelt and boots while swinging a hammer by day, she could also dazzle the crowds with a beautiful hairstyle, dress, and high heels as she danced the night away. Greta loved dancing and music and she had an infectious laugh and sense of humor. In Greta’s life, she had many passions. As a child, she was a youth lifeguard and loved the water and the sun. She also loved horses and loved to ride them. Greta was an amazing seamstress that could sew almost anything, especially clothes and home décor items. Drapes and window coverings were her specialty. She loved to make blankets and quilts for her loved ones. Greta had an amazing eye for fashion design and color. She was also a skilled carpenter who could build a gigantic treehouse for the boys or remodel her home. Greta did not have to rely on many people to get the job done. Loving, laughing, and sweet Greta always took the side of the underdog, less fortunate, and the under-privileged. She was always the first one to pitch in or give the shirt off her back for someone else. The family will announce soon a date and time for a Celebration of Life gathering for Greta. However, in the meantime, in lieu of flowers or donations, we request that you do as Greta would do and perform a random act of kindness to someone else in her honor. Words can’t describe the sense of loss we are all experiencing from this sudden tragic passing of our loved one. Rest in Peace, dear Greta.
