Victor Ray Smith

November 20, 1933 - December 23, 2015

Ray V Smith 1933-2015 WVC, UT – Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, age 82, passed away at home on Wednesday December 23, 2015 surrounded by family. Ray had a very full and wonderful life that was enriched with love by his family and friends. Ray was born on November 20, 1933 to Victor Ray Smith and Flora Bernice Hall. He married the love of his life, Dora Laine Cox, on July 17, 1967. They loved to spend time together and travel the world. Ray was a very kind and gentle man. He was a devoted grandfather and loved spending time with all of his grandchildren. He was an avid hockey fan and lived at the rink watching his three oldest grandsons play hockey. He never passed up the opportunity to go on a hockey trip. Ray loved camping and fishing. Fish Lake was one of his favorite places. He spent many family vacations there with his wife’s sister’s family. Ray had a great love for animals. Any dog that came to the house, knew that Ray would definitely feed them treats. Ray was loved very much and will be missed beyond words. He leaves us with a huge hole in our hearts. We know he is in a better place, and as Ray would say with his coffee cup in hand, “I’ll drink to that”. Ray is survived by his wife, Dora C. Smith, children, Sheree Smith, Mike (Telma) Smith, Bryan (Dané) Smith, Wes (Emily) Joosten, Jeff (Sam) Smith, Raelyn (Kevin) Edwards, Cory (Tanya) Joosten, Tyler Joosten and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I would like to give a special thank you to his grandson, Cody Smith, who never left his side at the end. Grandpa loved you so much. Thank you to my mom’s sister, Emma Dowda, who was always there for my mom and dad. I would also like to thank a dear friend, Jackie Bailey, for being there for my dad when he needed help and my mom was away. A celebration of life will be held on January 9, 2016 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at Noah’s in South Jordan, Utah located at 322 West 11000 South. Memories of Ray will be shared between 3:00 and 4:00 with dinner to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
