William Henry Warnes III
August 12, 1930 - April 26, 2013
Bill passed away at home April 26, 2013, after a long illness. He was born August 12, 1930, in the Chicago, Illinois area, and was raised in Winchester, Indiana, where he learned to farm and raise mink. Bill came to Salt Lake City to manage the mink farms where Doctor Jonas Salk was using the mink to test his polio vaccine. Raising orchids was Bill’s passion and what started him in the nursery business. He traveled to Central and South America to collect orchids and has won many awards for his orchids. Bill loved being outdoors, even when his illness made it impossible to work. He loved serving others and fulfilling his callings in the LDS Church. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Preceded in death by his parents William Henry Warnes II and Tessie Berry; brother Ray Warnes; brother-in-law Frank Addington; and son Douglas Warnes. Survived by: wife Gloria Potts Warnes; sister Anna Addington; sister in Law Margaret Warnes; children Mark Warnes; Teresa Piele (Charles); Trudy Mills; Terry MacFarlane (Deloy); Penelope Cook; Troy Lyman ( Betty Jo); Dwaine Lyman (Alison); Heidi Kemp (Joe); Sherie Edginton (Jason); 40 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren. Services will be held at River Oaks Ward, 8825 S. 1095 W. on Thursday May 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held Wednesday May 1st from 6-8 p.m. and friends may call 1 hour prior to services on Thursday. Internment at Redwood Memorial Cemetery.
