Yaeko Miyasaki Yamasaki

May 2, 1925 - February 21, 2016

Yaeko Miyasaki Yamasaki, 90, passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2016. She was born to Kitaro and Mitsu Miyasaki in Rexburg, Idaho on May 2, 1925. She was the eighth of eleven children. She spent her childhood days working and playing alongside her brothers and sisters on their farm in Hibbard, Idaho. She attended elementary school in Hibbard and Madison High School in Rexburg, Idaho. After graduation, she cared for her mother through her illness with cancer, and then for her bedridden father until his death. She married Haruo “Huck” Yamasaki on March 26, 1949. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls temple on August 26, 1959. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many ward and stake positions. She and her husband served a church history mission in Salt Lake City. For 11 years she volunteered as a Pink Lady in the Idaho Falls hospitals and also served in their women’s auxiliary organizations. In addition, she was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She taught several oriental cooking classes for BYU education week in Idaho Falls. Her hobbies were crafts, sewing, quilt making and golfing. She is survived by her husband, Haruo Yamasaki, two daughters, Carol (Robert) Hoki of Lecanto, Florida, and Diane (Don) Maruji of West Valley City, Utah, 9 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016, at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:30 at the Hunter East Stake building, 5000 Pavant Avenue in West Valley City, Utah. She will be interred in the Rexburg Idaho Cemetery on February 27 at 12:30 pm.
