It is with heavy hearts that we send off our beloved Jack Harold Thompson, 75. After a long battle with Parkinson's with dementia Jack succumbed on Tuesday, January 7th, 2020. He was born on February 9th, 1944 in Grand Junction, Read Obituary
Jack had a love & kindness for animals and an amazing talent to work with them. Jack and I spent a lot of time together growing up; fishing, hunting and camping. We did a lot with horses as well. He may have been small in stature but he had a strength within himself believing he was a big as anyone. At times he was more like a brother than a cousin. He will be missed, but I know he no longer suffers from the awful disease and is now at peace. Dale Thompson
Jack was a hard working, no BS kinda guy. I spent a lot of time at his house as a kid and remember him making sure that his kids always had their animal duties done. There were many times we had to take care of the horses and dogs before we could play our video games or ride our bikes. Or, times he'd come down to the basement to make sure Brian was up to get the animals taken care of. I remember the time Brian and I raided his closet for some sweet shirts to wear to a dance at school. If he cared we took his shirts, he never showed it. I think he actually thought it was funny. I also remember sitting around the small TV in the kitchen, watching shows in the morning after a sleepover while we ate the breakfast DeAnn NEVER failed to make for us. Jack had his spot at the end of that table that was HIS spot and we would watch whatever Jack was watching. We were sure to never get in the way! He was a great guy and will be missed!
Jack was a giant of a man. He was very quiet, but an example to all around him of kindness, hard work, love, and thoughtfulness. He was always up early each morning to care for his animals and to get to his job. He had a profession that required him to work long hours in all kinds of weather. He was always the first one to see a need and be there to help. He was a great neighbor and friend to all of us. He will be missed. Our sincere sympathy to DeAnn and family.
I have so many good memories of being at the Thompson's house as a kid. Jack and DeAnn always made me feel at home. Thank you Jack for always making your place feel like a safe place for me to go and for always taking time to talk to me and be like a dad.
Jack was always very quiet and unassuming but underneath was a little humor and fun. You would never doubt that he loved his family. He was a hard worker in a physically demanding job. He loved his animals and they seamed to pick up a bit of his personality. Anyone who knew him is very lucky and better for having his example in their life. It is unfair that he had to suffer with Parkinson's but could not have received better or more loving care than that which DeAnn provided, He will really be missed!
I got to work with DeAnn and I loved hearing all the amazing stories she would share with me about Jack and the amazing memories they have made together. What an incredible man he was who will be deeply missed. Always in my prayers, sending so much love.
I had the privilege of spending time with Jack as he struggled with the challenges of Parkinson’s during the last weeks of his life. I found in him a great sense of humor as he smiled and laughed about what he was going through. He often spoke about his children and grandchildren with pride and joy, and I know how important his family is to him. He spent a week at a care center a while back and those who cared for him loved him because he never complained and always thanked them for the care he received. Jack attitude was optimistic and grateful. He was always kind a force for good to those who know and love him. My heart and prayers reach out to his family and friends. I found in Jack a wonderful sense of humor as he often smiled and laughed about what he was experiencing. He talked about his children and grandchildren and the joy they brought into his life. Jack spent a week in a care center a while back and I visited there with him a few times. The care staff there said that he never complained and was ever expressing gratitude for the care he was receiving. In the time I was able to spend with Jack I learned that he was optimistic about life and kind and friendly to all around him.
