When Dave was the art director at Deseret Book he hired me as a designer. That began a friendship that has lasted nearly 30 years. He was a dream to work with and I don’t think I’ve ever laughed as much at my job as I did when working with Dave. We worked on book promotions and when he’d give me a new project I’d ask if he knew what the book was about—and every time without fail— he’d start repeating the storyline of that cheesy romance novel, “Charly” from the 70s. I soon learned he never read any of the books, but I’d ask him anyway just so I could hear him tell the same story again because the way he told it made me laugh. It never got old.
We met for lunch the first week of April and he made me laugh, as usual. I’m going to miss that. He was such a good man.
