Jim and I became friends as soon as we met when I moved to Fremont at 13. We would walk home from Jr High and talk about how important we were going to be in High School. We did become important,, if only in our eyes.
Girls wanted to know us and some thought we were brothers. We were but not from the same family.
School came and went, girl friends came and went but the friendship never went. Upon Jim’s return from his mission he told me he was going to move to SL to meet the right girl. He stuck to his word as I knew he would but the friendship never changed.
We didn’t get to see each other as much as we would have liked over the last 40 years but the calls we frequent and kept us in each other’s lives. That was important to me.

First time I met Jim was at a little league baseball game in Wendover. Cold, windy, and sloppy baseball. Jim’s infamous and merciless banter and humor were in prime from that day as he yelled from behind the backstop: “C’mon, kid, catch the damn ball.” He will be missed for a lot of reasons, but I’ll remember him, not only for his entertainment at the ballpark. But also for his genuine and cordial nature.
