Oh Julia. So many memories. Our friendship almost didn't get off the ground. You didn't want to sit next to me in a current events class in high school. My older brother had a terrible reputation, and you were concerned I would be like him. Our teacher had to convince you that I was really a nice girl, and we ended up being the best of friends. I remember having so much fun going to the Ground Round to hear our teacher, Mr. Wilson sing. We'd order a pitcher of diet Pepsi, eat the free peanuts and popcorn, and get the crowd all worked up for Mr. Wilson. I remember when you decided to teach me to drive. I ended up driving your car in a ditch full of water, and you didn't get mad at me! You did get mad at me when I ditched our plans for a date with Eddie Harris. THAT was a big mistake, but you didn't stay mad for long. I was your maid of honor, and you were my matron of honor at our weddings. I made you wear the quintessential ugly bridesmaid's dress, a very 1980's pink dress with big shoulders and poofy sleeves that made you look like Little Bo Peep. You wore it willingly, another testament to your tolerance and loyalty to those you loved. Mostly, I remember our time in Colorado. We shared so many wonderful camping trips together in the mountains. You were like a second mama to our little Ian, who adored you, and still remembers his Aunt Julie with love.
