Agnes (Johnston) Rose's Obituary
Agnes (Johnston) Rose, known by family and friends as "Pete" passed away on January 17th, 2025.
Pete was the youngest child born to Mr. & Mrs. Jesse and Jennie Johnston on December 5th, 1937, in Ramah, New Mexico. Later in life Pete described her upbringing as far from affluent but full of self-reliance, faith and love. Pete's parents were lifelong members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she followed this pattern throughout her life rarely missing Sunday meetings and consistently working at whatever church calling she was given. Pete graduated from Ramah High school in 1956 as her class valedictorian and later went to beauty school in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City, Utah.
While living in Sugarhouse she met Donald Rose whom she married on July 1st, 1960, in the Los Angeles temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Don and Pete were side by side for over 64 1/2 years and have 5 children, 17 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. They made their home in various places including Simi Valley CA, Acton CA, Valencia CA, Powell WY, Yuma AZ, Herriman UT, Fruit Heights UT, and Clearfield UT where she lived at the time of her passing. Donald was at Pete’s side when she passed way. In all of the various communities Pete lived she made friends by reaching out to people she met at Church and in the community.
Pete made family her most urgent priority and worked tirelessly to keep her home clean and in order. Late dinner in the Rose home was almost unheard of and her family always looked forward to her signature fruit salad, canned peaches and the most anticipated of all the Rose family recipes, the enchiladas. Pete also had talents for haircutting, sewing and cake decorating which she used to enrich her family and friends. She passed these talents down to her children and their spouses. During family fishing trips Pete enjoyed fishing for black sea bass and trout but would only do so when she was satisfied everyone else was comfortable.
Agnes Johnston Rose was preceded in death by her mother, father, 4 brothers, 9 sisters, her son Dana Douglas Rose of Pearblossom CA, daughter in law Roween Rose of Bermuda Dunes CA, and great grandson Colt Kantu Inca Roca. Pete is survived by her husband Donald of Clearfield UT, daughter NiCole (David) Hale of Fruit Heights UT, sons Kimber of Bermuda Dunes CA, Boyd (Ruth Ann) of Roy UT, and Morgan (Holly) of Spokane MO.
