I lived a couple blocks from Alan in Ogden. He wanted to begin playing football as a senior and on the way to the first practice, he asked me if I thought he could make the team. I said yes, but probably not first string. He suited up, putting his hip pads on backwards. But, he was a great athlete and was soon a starting defensive back. We would walk by Saint Benedicts on the way to practice. He said the sisters wouldn't mind if we picked a few peaches. After my mission, I attended stake conference and the next speaker they announced, was Alan Baczuk. I thought, "I didn't know they invited Catholics to speak in stake conference." He had joined the Church. He was always a wonderful friend.

Alan lived a couple blocks from us, on 36th street, in Ogden. We played football together at Ogden High,,,often stopping by St Benedicts on the way, to pick a few peaches. He was a superb athlete, although he didn't play until his junior or senior year. He put his hip pads on backwards the first day he suited up. He was a wonderful friend. Richard Clark

I met the Baczuk family soon after I joined the church as a teenager in Federal Way. Al took such good care of me in those first few years as I learned new things. Always positive, full of enthusiasm, and teaching life lessons anytime he could. After getting married, we loved living in Missoula, MT for two years of college and visiting them for Sunday dinners in their log home overlooking the Bitterroot Valley. I especially remember how sincerely he would praise Soni during those dinners. He made it clear he was deeply in love. Very grateful for his influence and friendship and pray the best for Soni and the family.

I was sad to hear about Uncle Alan. He was always so friendly and kind. I have many good memories of him and his family at family reunions. I appreciated the special relationship he and Aunt Soni had with my parents, especially in their later years. My parents looked forward to the times they spent together and often enjoyed playing games with them. I send my condolences to his family and pray for your comfort.

I have fond memories of visiting Grandpa and Grandma in their log cabin house in Missoula, MT, and spending Christmases together. Grandpa loved to scare us grandkids, and shout "Fe Fi Fo Fum!" When I was little, he would take me for a ride in his green truck, and go on a trip to the dump. Sometimes he would take me on the "Scary Road" when they lived in Federal Way, WA. I would beg him to pull the cord to toot his truck horn. I remember his Indian whistle and other native knick-knacks. We spent time panning for gold at Reed's gold mine in North Carolina, and carving hiking sticks. My little dog Joey adored Grandpa, and loved sitting in his lap for scratches. I will forever love and miss my Grandpa Baczuk.

I couldn't understand my home teacher taking me all the way East of the Cascades to bow hunt and our driving back Saturday evening... after all when we went hunting it was always 'til Sunday night. After the second or third time, I understood how much better to have both hunted and worshiped on the same weekend. Thanks Al for sharing your friendship and your greatness with me and our family. When we were kids, even though tbey lived far away, we always loved it when Uncle Alan and Aunt Soni and their family came down to visit all of us in Salt Lake City. Uncle Alan's big, warm smile, his entertaining stories, and his interest in us and our family made for some wonderful visits and great memories. It was also fun to see the sweet relationship that he had with his wife, and to hear them teasing each other back and forth, they were so cute together😉 and both of them always made us laugh!! It was also neat to hear him talk about our Harris relatives and his love for our side of the family, but especially about his and Aunt Sonia's kids and grandkids in such a loving way. I'm sure he and Aunt Soni must feel very blessed to have their beautiful family. They've also helped and served many others in this life, and we're so grateful to have known them and their family. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you Aunt Soni, and with your kids and grandkids. Love you, Mindy and Dave Pitcher

Alan and his sweet wife Sonia were down the street neighbors who regularly came to pick up their mail from the community mail box located next to our home. They were both very dedicated to the Lord's work and were always welcoming people to come and learn about "His" church. Alan was a fighter, as exemplified by his determination to fully recover when he had foot/ankle surgery. He just kept plowing on, even when it was extremely challenging; then after a year or so, his success was evident. He loved delivering sacrament meeting messages and eloquently preached the doctrine with his loving, committed wife and testimony. Rest in Peace dear man, your friends, fanily, neighbors and fellow church members will help Sonia carry on.

I have only known Alan and his loving wife, Sonia, for a short time. But Alan is someone that I feel privileged to have met and known. He was a devout man, and so willing to help and serve others. He had a contagious smile. I feel grateful for his memories and happy moments that we were able to converse over. What a life he lived! And with such a wonderful woman by his side!
