Alan Lando Mecham's Obituary
Alan Lando Mecham -
With a golf club in one hand, a fly rod in the other and his kids by his side, Alan Lando Mecham embarked on his final journey on April 4, 2024, at his home in the beautiful Ogden Valley. Born in Brigham City on August 12, 1945, he was preceded in death by his parents Phoebe and Glen Mecham, his brother Gary and sister-in-law Melba Mecham.
Alan's adventurous soul was evident from the start. He spent his youth riding horses around the Ogden Valley, getting into mischief with his cousin Phil, driving too fast up to Preston and charming the local ladies, including his high school sweetheart, Connie, who remained his friend until the end.
Alan loved a good adventure. As a teen, he suffered a gunshot wound while rabbit hunting and once he sobered up, drove himself to the hospital. The resulting newspaper report cost him his job as an underage bartender at the Hermitage. While it's difficult to verify all the tales, it's been said that Al may have once pushed his VW off the Ogden Divide. Though for legal reasons, we cannot confirm nor deny this anecdote, it's certainly reflective of his spirited nature.
Al's passion for golf was unmatched, and he could often be found on the green, swapping stories, jokes and a smooth cigar with his much-loved golf buddies. His children appreciate their support and friendship through the years.
Though Alan may have found himself in a few bar brawls in his day, his heart was always in the right place. He loved road trips, whether it was driving to Canada to pick up his children for their summers in Utah or embarking on fishing expeditions to Montana with his son and best friend David, Alan never hesitated to hit the road.
One of the most memorable adventures was a special all-expense-paid trip to Alaska, where Alan, David, son-in-law Chris, and some close friends ventured into the wild, embracing the rugged beauty of the Last Frontier while extremely hungover. Together, they shared laughter, stories, and the thrill of exploration, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime.
A true entrepreneur, Alan built his success from the ground up and generously shared his prosperity with family and friends. Despite his tough exterior, Alan was a softy at heart, shedding tears of pride when talking about his grandchildren, Tyler, Daniel, Chantal, Emma, Maya, and Grace. He embraced his adopted daughter Patti and granddaughter Addyson with open arms. He considered his friends Tom and Denise Russell to be family, and their bond was unbreakable.
Al believed in the importance of honesty, hard work, and loyalty - values he instilled in his children and shared with his extended family and friends.
As we say mańana to the best Dad, Grandpa and friend, we are confident that he is now reunited with the love of his life, Wendy and they are probably causing trouble together once more.
He lived life to the fullest, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Al. May your drives be long, your putts be true, and your fishing line tight. You are dearly missed, but never forgotten.
A celebration of Alan's life will be held at The Barn Golf Club, on June 22, 2024, from 3-5 p.m., where family, friends, and fellow golf enthusiasts can share stories and raise a glass in his honor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Utah, in honor of Alan's love for his furry friends, Nellie, Bonnie and Clyde.
