Alan Liddell Oviatt

On October 11, 2024, Alan Liddell Oviatt, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, returned to his Heavenly Father and the loving arms of his parents after a long and stalwart battle against many health complications. Alan was born on June 8, 1947 in Price, Utah to Theron H. and Barbara Liddell Oviatt, descendants of proud and hardy pioneers who helped settle various communities in Carbon County. Alan was blessed to live near and grow up with many aunts and uncles and spent countless hours playing and exploring with cousins developing a life-long relationship with all of them, but most especially his cousin Mark Clair. As a teenager, Alan’s family moved to Brigham City where Alan continued his penchant for making friends. He attended Box Elder High School where he excelled in football and track and field, where he set a record for the longest discus throw which was untouched for nearly 20 years. His prowess on the football field ultimately earned him a scholarship to play for Weber State College. Alan loved his time at Box Elder High School - he was active in theater and many other social clubs - which helped him foster lifelong friendships with so many classmates. After graduating in 1965, Alan served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Uruguay and Paraguay. Upon returning home, he made the acquaintance of a young grocery checker who stole his heart. On June 26, 1970, Alan married that girl, his sweetheart Colleen Loveland, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they would settle in West Jordan, Utah and raise three wonderful children with all the love and support two people could possibly muster. Alan began his career as an accountant with Thiokol. From there, he went to work for the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in their Genealogy and Human Resource departments. After a period in sales, he returned to employment with the Church working with Deseret Industries and then the Welfare Department helping people in a quest for new or better employment. He loved helping others try to better their circumstances through education and employment. Alan was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in various callings throughout his life. He loved being with the youth and being able to share his love and knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those he served. He was a thoughtful and eager student and teacher and a dedicated servant and disciple of Christ. He was loved by so many and his loving heart and bright spirit will be missed. Alan's most treasured blessings were his children, but most especially his grandchildren. After retiring, Alan had the opportunity to watch several of his grandchildren - he was always up for babysitting, chauffeuring them to various activities or practices and those trips almost always included a trip to the gas station - he loved to treat his grandchildren to their favorite drink or candy. He loved spending time watching his grandchildren doing their many activities - whether it was swimming, basketball, football, soccer, dance, band concerts or even coaching his grandson's little league football team - he was extremely proud of every little accomplishment and found his greatest enjoyment in the company of his family. Alan is survived by his wife of 54 years, three children, Doug Oviatt and wife Angela (Sandy), Mindy Roberts and husband Dan (Riverton), and Megan (South Jordan) as well as eight grandchildren, Logan, Patrick, Garrett, Courtney, Gavin, Griffin, Nash, and Nixon. He is also survived by his brothers James Oviatt and Martin Oviatt and sisters Marie Popp and Melissa Wilson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Jordan Oaks 5th Ward Chapel at 9353 South Vista West Drive (3780 West), West Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held at that location on October 21, 2024 from 6-8 pm and prior to the funeral from 9:45 to 10:45. Interment will be at the South Jordan Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the many caregivers at Rocky Mountain Home Health and Care Center who provided such loving care to our father. Thank you for the kindness and love you showed to him over the last two years. We are forever grateful to you!
