Both Juan and Alma had an important influence on my life. Although I didn't spend that much time in their home, it was evident that the Spirit was there. Alma was really the heart of their home. Even years later, whenever I would see here somewhere, she never failed to greet me with a warm hug. She gave the best hugs. She will be sorely missed.

All my love to the Whiting Family. Oh how our mother loved Alma, and we do too. I'm sure there is joy in heaven today! She was such a fine example to follow, and a light for truth and gratitude. I can just picture her in the old white church playing her violin. I always felt welcome and loved in your home. I know she will be missed. My sister Carol wrote this sweet tribute to her and posted it on facebook. It is a beautiful expression of how we all feel. Since niether of us can be there in person I will share it with you here. She writes:
I was heartbroken to hear the news of a lifelong family friend but especially my mothers dear friend who passed away today. My Mom had a great groups of friends! They called themselves the sunshine club 🌞 they would get together and quilt, plan events, get togethers, and give service. But mostly laugh, enjoy each other's company, talk, and support each other in times of need. Maybe unwittingly at a young age I saw the importance of having great friends who were there through the laughter, heartaches and tears! I was a little nostalgic today thinking of all the good times I witnessed and feeling so grateful for good and lifelong friends I have in my life that have been a lifeline when I needed it and a source of fun and laughter! My heart breaks for the Whiting family; it's hard to say goodbye to your Mom, my prayers are with you. But if the "Sun"shines a little brighter tomorrow it's because they are all together having a great reunion and planning something fun!
Because Alma went to BYU at the same time as my sister, Colleen Callister Dixon, and my husband, Ray Beckham, I feel as if I have known her forever. A smile and warm greeting were always there when we met. Her genuine goodness will endure through her posterity, I am sure.
My affection and connection for Mapleton and the White Church deepen my attachment. My grandmother's home was just a block East from the Church, across from the Town Hall. I am attached to the history and to a name like WHITING!

How I cherish my memories of many summers helping on the farm....fresh milk with cream, swimming at the local pool, large wholesome mid-day meals, caramel popcorn for Family Home Evening, and the tree swing, mustn't forget that! This was all possible because of Aunt Alma, who embraced me as one of her own.
Aunt Alma was always kind, thoughtful, charitable and nurturing. I'm sure her influence touched many others. What a great example of a Christ-like life.
I will love you Aunt Alma, forever!!
