Alma Lorene Witmer's Obituary
Alma Lorene Witmer, 84, of Roy, UT left this world for her home in heaven at 11:15 a.m. on Monday 11/2/2015 at Heritage Park Care Center, where she has resided for the last 3 years. She was born to Ruby and James Smith in Pitcher, OK on 11/24/1930. She married John B Witmer on May 27, 1961. She spent most of her life in Missouri and called Braymer, MO “Home”. In her final years she had Alzheimer’s but was happy and loving and kind.
She is survived by her husband, John Witmer, two daughters Lois Bigham (Brandan), Donna Stevenson (Jimmy Anderson), and two sons, Randy Witmer (Stephanie) and Danny Witmer (Wendy). She had 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren (with another to be born on the 17th) and 1 great-great granddaughter (with a great-great grandson expected in January); they were the highlight of her life! She had a special love for her family and loved cooking for us and holding those babies! In the week prior to her death she was visited by or talked to on the phone by all of her children and nearly all of her grands!
She attended Webb City High School. She worked at several jobs over the years including Feld Chevrolet, St Regis Paper Co., the Hamilton Nursing Home and one of her favorites New York School, where she spent her last 20+ years cooking for kids and then cooking for their kids also, before she retired. She was active in Hopewell Baptist Church where she looked forward to teaching at vacation bible school every summer. She enjoyed playing bingo at the American Legion and loved to take the Grandkids to play.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lendell Murray; a grandson, James “Rabbit” Anderson; and her beloved dog Jasmine.
Funeral services to be held Saturday, November 7th at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Roy, 2025 W 5700 S, Roy, UT. Following the funeral she will be taken home to Braymer where a graveside service will be held on Saturday November 21st at 12 noon at the Braymer Evergreen Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Braymer American Legion, 9th Street at N. Murray Ave, Braymer MO, from 1-4 p.m.
Our family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support. It has been incredible! We’d like to extend a special Thanks to First Baptist Church of Roy. They have been a great support to us, especially the Pastors wife, Pat who spent hours and hours at the hospital and nursing home with us helping take care of Mom.
