When I saw this I was reminded of a fun memory and I thought I would share. When we were children he lived by "Bunker Hill" on 500 South in Provo and we all spent many hours sleighing down the hill and once in the summer we dug a "club house" in a vacant space in his yard and covered it with wood and tar paper. I don't remember ever spending time in it.. But the project was great fun. Jay was very quiet but always had a great imagination.
Jay was one of the nicest persons I have known. I loved watching him paint his landscapes. He was very gracious and patient when teaching me to paint. I'll always remember him as one of my favorite people.
I am saddened to learn of Jay's passing. As a teenager I was very interested in art and my mother arranged for Jay to teach me oil painting in his home in the Edgemont 4th ward. He was so patient with me and taught me so much about oil painting. In all the years of school art classes, it was through his teaching that I learned the most. My parents displayed the painting I worked on in Jay's studio until they both passed away. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.
