Angelique Rachelle Rogers' Obituary
Angelique Rachelle Rogers (Sones) passed away on October 5, 2023. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. On Monday, December 27, 1971, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Angel was born to Daniel and Frances Sones. She was the oldest of 10 children; Kim, Sarah, Danielle, Julie, Richard, Russel, Michael, Joshua, and David.
With a rather large extended family, Angel would tell people that she had more than 50 first cousins, and she had fond memories of each of them growing up. In her youth, she learned to despise the mullet haircuts that she and her sisters endured for years. She truly enjoyed playing basketball with her best friend, Hayley, and later on, tolerated playing church softball, thanks mostly to the efforts of her youth leader, Laurie Cox.
In 1992, Angel received her Associate's Degree in Sports Medicine from Rick’s College. While studying at Rick’s, Angel met the love of her life, Michael Rogers. They met through their Family Home Evening group and started dating in February 1991. They often attended sporting events together, along with her roommate, Michelle, and a mutual friend, Aaron.
Angel and Michael were later married and sealed for time and all eternity, on August 14, 1991, in the Dallas, Texas Temple. They celebrated 32 years of marriage shortly before Angel’s passing in 2023. In 1992, Angel and Michael welcomed the first of six children together. After they had five children, they thought their family was complete. Surprisingly, seven years after having their 5th child, Angel learned she was pregnant in the spring of 2009.
While she didn't reveal it to Michael at the time, she later recounted that she had a very distinct and specific impression of a brown-eyed little boy with curly, dark hair, and she knew that she would be his mother. Her love for that little boy was deep and fierce, and she fought for him until the very end.
Thanks to the wonderful examples of her parents, Angel served in various roles and callings within the church throughout her life. She served as a teacher on many occasions, in Primary, Youth Sunday School, and the Relief Society. Within the Relief Society, she faithfully served in many roles, such as Visiting Teacher, Ministering Sister, counselor, and President. She truly loved serving and learning alongside her fellow-sisters.
In September 2020, Angel learned of her Stage Four colon cancer diagnosis. She fought valiantly for three years until she was called back to her Heavenly Father in the early hours of October 5, 2023. Angel was preceded in death by her little brother, Russell, of whom she often talked excitedly about seeing again soon; her grandparents, Earl and Lillian Sones and Lavell and Laura Bell Hollingsworth; her in-laws, Micky Rogers and Kathy Tucker, her brother-in-law, Mark Caldwell; and aunts and uncles too numerous to name herein.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael; her six children, lan (Jenna), Ellen, Ethan, Abigail, Genevieve (Gavin), and Jackson, and her three grandchildren, Quinton, Kylie, and Richie. She is also survived by her parents, Daniel and Frances Sones; and by her siblings and their families; Kim and Scott Johnson; Sarah and Steve Brown; Danielle Caldwell; Julie and Devin Bateman; Richard and Audra Sones; and all of their respective children. Finally, Angel is survived by her three younger brothers, Michael, Joshua, and David Sones.
She touched the lives and hearts of so many people, both young and old alike, during her 51 years on this earth. Her love and loyalty, for Heavenly Father, and for her friends and family, attracted others like a moth to a flame. She loved deeply and was, in turn, loved deeply by others. Angel will eternally be remembered for her kindness, goodness, and the pure love of Christ that she willingly shared with all those she met. She left a legacy of kindness, unconditional love, and a shining example of magnanimous service to her fellow man. She always taught her children growing up "You can do hard things!" And now, true to her counsel, we must do that which is hardest; go on without her.
