Grandma great was awesome! We would take our kids to her house for Halloween and loved trick-or-treating in her neighborhood. She had an open home and welcomed people in. She once hosted our full YM and YW from Las Vegas when we went to visit Salt Lake City.
Breakfast was always waffles, apricot jam, orange juice and sausages. We always watched Perry Mason, there was always nuts and candies in the kitchen double bowl, and her grass was always green.
She loved her family but she loved her husband most. She took care of him and constantly made sure he ate correctly as she tracked EVERYTHING that he consumed. She loved Jesus Christ and she simply lived that love.
She was a Tetris master! Proficient at solitaire and was fun to play Rummikub with. You simply felt loved around her.
I got to drive her to Colorado for the big family reunion. On the way there, she mentioned that she was starting to forget things. I joked that if she got dementia, it would be ok because we would get to meet each other over and over and I would get to use all my jokes again. Near the end, the dementia was pretty strong, and I got to meet her over and over. I got to meet a different Grandma great. She was spunky, feisty, but it was obvious that she still loved her family. Near the end, I got to sit beside her and watch Little House on the Prairie. I was a stranger, but she shared the couch with a stranger.
What a wonderful life.
