Arnold F Nelson's Obituary
Arnold “Red” Ferdinand Nelson passed away peacefully on December 17, 2022 in Layton, Utah. He was born in Lewiston, Idaho on November 19, 1934 to Fred F. Nelson and Carry Sundy. Red enjoyed an active life spent outdoors hunting and fishing, along with making friends and playing pinochle. He is dearly missed by his friends and family.
Red grew up in Idaho, and joined the army in 1950. He joined the Navy shortly after, where he served in several places in the Pacific, including Pearl Harbor, and North and South Korea. Upon returning home from his service, he met Jacqueline Mary Kaiser in St. Louis, Missouri, whom he later married in Idaho in 1956. They had 2 daughters, and lived in various places throughout the United States, including Missouri, Idaho, Washington state, Montana, Alaska, and Utah. Red worked for Greyhound in Missouri as a diesel mechanic. He then started a business in Montana as a diesel mechanic and later worked on the North Slope in Alaska.
Red and Jackie built a home in Craig, Alaska, where they lived for 20 years. Here, they frequently enjoyed fishing, whale watching, and bear spotting. They were examples of frugality and living simply within their means. Red and Jackie moved to Layton, Utah for the final years of their lives. Red was only without his sweetheart for 10 months, before he passed on to be with her again.
