Barbara Claire Horsley Jacobs' Obituary
Barbara Claire Horsely Jacobs passed peacefully on July 16, 2025 at her son’s home in Kaysville where she spent the last months of her life. Her sense of humor never left her, and she loved to laugh with her children and grandchildren. Everyone who cared for Barbara can attest; she was always quick with a joke; her sense of humor lasted until the end.
Barbara Jacobs was born on July 2, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Glen William Horsley and Edna Horsley. Barbara lived with her maternal grandparents and mother in a home on 9th Avenue in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her childhood home was two blocks from Lindsay Park, where she would often play tennis with her childhood best friend. She spent Sunday afternoons at Liberty Park, eating lunch with her family. Imagination played a significant role in Barbara’s childhood, as she played horses with her friends. Barbara’s equine passion continued throughout her life and she enjoyed riding lessons when she got a little older.
Barbara always had a spark for creativity, writing poems and successful church road shows. She was also a skilled pianist and particularly enjoyed playing the Warsaw Concerto and Claire de Lune.
Barbara met her sweetheart, Lamont Joseph Jacobs, while in high school. Although the two went to rival schools, East and West High, they fell in love and were married on February 20, 1953, by Apostle Harold B. Lee in the Salt Lake City Temple. Barbara converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at a young age and lived as a devout member for the rest of her life. She served alongside Lamont as a stake missionary in Fort Ord, a missionary host at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, and as a couple missionary in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Barbara also served as a Relief Society president in 1978.
Barbara worked as a secretary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Davis County Sheriff's office, and a lawyer's office. She also supported her husband’s career and education as a pharmacist, learning many of Lamont’s pharmacist terminology alongside him as she helped him study. Her grandchildren recall her retaining and sharing pharmacological knowledge even late in life.
Barbara and Lamont had five children: Thomas Alan Jacobs, Reed Lamont Jacobs, Michael Joseph Jacobs, Shauna Lynn Jacobs, and Sherri Lee Dusenberry. Barbara is preceded in death by her sister Connie Magness and children Thomas and Michael, and her sweetheart, Lamont.
