Barbara Fay Showalter's Obituary
Barbara Fay Showalter, 94, of Sandy UT, passed away peacefully early morning of February 15, 2025, at her home. She was married to Norman W. Showalter for 75 years when he passed away in 2023.
Barbara was born May 13, 1930, to Floyd and Rachel White in Boise, Idaho. She met Norman during her senior year of high school. They were married on October 3, 1948. Barbara attended Twin Falls Business College and took shorthand and bookkeeping. In 1951, Norman joined the Air Force where he studied Russian and served for 4 years. Barbara worked for the Civil Service at Fort Ord with the Criminal Investigation Department. This was the best job she ever had investigating criminal cases! After leaving the Air Force, they went to Provo UT so Norman could attend BYU. It was here he found his love for cameras and photography. He was offered a job to manage an Inkley's store in Pocatello ID, so off to Pocatello they went to raise their family. They were in Pocatello for more than 60 years.
Barbara enjoyed skiing, camping, knitting, sewing, and playing cards. Their favorite summertime vacations were spent boating at Redfish Lake, Seagull Bay, and building a cabin at Palisades Reservoir. She was employed at Idaho State University, Pacific Railroad, and USPS until retirement. Barbara was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where they served at the Idaho Falls Temple. Norman and Barbara enjoyed traveling to Asia, Europe, Africa, South America, Russia, Australia & New Zealand, and all across the United States. They would winter at Parker Dam and enjoy golfing and traveling to Quartzsite, Lake Havasu and Mexico.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Judee (Byrd) Golay of Kimberly ID, son, Eric (Joan) Showalter of Sandy UT, Lisa (Mark) Rockwell of Fairbanks AK, and 4 grandchildren Matthew (Julia) Showalter, Jenny Showalter, Norman Rockwell, and Olivia Rockwell, and 3 great-grandchildren Ivy, Eli and Leo Showalter.

A graveside service will be held for family and friends on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 2 pm, at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Twin Falls, ID.
