I remember being out on a boat with Bert and my own father (Don Hone) at Strawberry reservoir. We had a healthy stringer full of big fish (before the lake level was raised). Bert lifted the stringer off the oar post to show someone passing by, and set it back down but missed the post and lost the entire morning's catch! We laughed ourselves silly over that. Bert was also known earlier in his life for his mutton stew recipe. Lastly, whenever I would pass through Mesquite, Nevada and stay at the hotels, the staff would always ask how I was related. They would regale with stories of his caramels and other baked goods he was always bringing the staff. He was a good older brother to my father, and I always enjoyed talking with him and playing Bingo with him when visiting Mesquite. Rest in peace, Uncle Bert.
