Lucas Lloyd lit a candle in memory of Bert Lloyd

My favorite memories of Bert were during our Anniversary 4 wheeling trips to Strawberry where we splurged and always reserved a beautiful room for a few days at Daniels Summit Lodge. We would ride for up to 80 miles each day s traveling over Utah’s vast mountain ranges around the lake with wildflowers in bloom during July. It was the only month I could really get away from work and it was just he and I. We would ride by people camping in tents fighting the heat or mosquitoes and we agreed we were lucky we could spend the extra money for a hotel room and could ride on a luxury CanAm fast enough that mosquitoes couldn’t touch us!! Even though Bert would test my courage on some pretty steep places, I knew I was safe with him and he could get us out of anything. He taught me how to play. He taught me how to look up and out to see beyond the horizon when I was fussing and worried about small details that didn’t really matter. I’m a stronger person for my association with Bert Lloyd. I am grateful he chose me to help Lucas and Landon's finish high school and support them with letters and encouragement during their missions. I remember shortly after we were married and were living in the same house when we were eating one of our first meals together I started crying over something. All three of them panicked! They looked at each other like, “What is happening? What do we do?” When I saw the terror in the boy’s eyes, I stopped immediately. Obviously, I’d been dropped into a world of “No whining!” I needed a different way to handle my feelings cuz this crying wouldn’t work. Bert taught the boys to be leaders and he can rest assured they are exactly that. Bert…we will all remember what you were committed to and teach those things to your grandkids. Count on it.

Lucas and Landon,
Your family and all who knew your father, has lost a loving father, grandfather, man of service, hard worker, straight shooter, and fantastic neighbor. He will be watching over you and your continued legacy. He was so proud of his boys and loved talking about your successes. Prayers and love.
