Betty Ruth Klas' Obituary
Betty Carmichall Klas, 76, a longtime resident and nurse in Salt Lake City for over forty years, entered the presence of the Lord on September 12, 2019 in Salt Lake City. She was a patient at Highland Care Center under Hospice care.
Betty, born on Valentine’s Day in 1943, was raised in Fort Worth, Texas by loving and adoring parents, Floyd and Ruth Carmichall. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and attended with her family.
Betty attended William Woods College in Missouri after graduating from a private high school in San Marcos, Texas. After William Woods, she decided on a career in nursing. Betty received her LVN nursing degree in Ft. Worth through Harris Hospital. She continued her education with a RN degree from Oklahoma University. After moving to Salt Lake City, she earned her Graduate degree in Physio-Social Nursing for Children and Families at the University of Utah.
Betty was highly respected by her colleagues and had a successful nursing career. She was dedicated to her profession and to her patients, despite her handicap in having Multiple Sclerosis. Her sincere and loving desire to help children made her dear to the children and their parents, resulting in lifelong friendships.
In Salt Lake City, over the past thirty years, Betty was employed by Primary Children’s Hospital, Health South and Promise Hospitals, coordinating many programs and being a liaison between the hospitals and the nursing and rehab facilities. Betty then finished her career by returning to Primary Children’s Hospital.
Betty was a vital and active member of Wasatch Presbyterian Church. She had an amazing ability to relate with the youth, serving in that capacity and going on their mission trips. Her strong faith was evident to everyone.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Floyd and Ruth Carmichall, her brother Floyd Carmichall Jr. and her husband, Ron Klas.
Those surviving her are her dear son, Kevin Klas, his wife Bilyana, and two beloved Grandsons: Parker and Aiden, all of Utah; sister, Nancy Carmichall Turner and her husband Champ, of Amarillo, Texas; and her goddaughter, Cydnie Garcia of California. Also surviving her are several dear friends, Paul and Leora Hewitt of Salt Lake; Janet Cole of Fresno, California; and Linda Griffin of Salt Lake.
Deep gratitude goes to Betty’s caring Guardians from Guardian Advocate Services: Lois, Abbee, Katie, Bryce, Jennifer and Marcie. Also, thank you to Becky and Kellie with Stagg Fiduciary Services. A special thank you to sweet friends she made at Sunrise of Sandy, Assisted Living.
Betty will be buried in Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth, Texas.
