Betty Louise Nelson's Obituary
Betty Louise Polhemus Nelson was born in White Plains, NY, to Albert Polhemus and Edna Mae Lawson. She was married to Willard Oliver Allis until his death in 1967, and subsequently married and divorced the late Arthur Nelson. Betty is survived by four children, Paul (Marie) Allis of South Deerfield, MA, Gilbert Allis of Fairbanks, AK, David (Lisa) Allis of Beacon, NY, Jane (Dana) Allis-Pike of Mapleton, UT, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Betty worked at a variety of jobs, including her compassionate work as a home health aid. She also worked as a fly fishing rod winder and was ranked one of the top winders in the world. She was an avid Scrabble player, once ranking 2000th in the world.
Betty spent the majority of her life in Greenfield, MA, but retired to Springville and later Mapleton, UT where she resided with her daughter’s family. Betty was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and that membership was the joy of her later years.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Mapleton “White” Church located at 31 West Maple Street, Mapleton, UT. There will be a viewing at the church prior to the services from 9 to 10:45 am. Interment at the Springville City Cemetery.
