Betty Larson Reed's Obituary
Betty Larsen Reed, age 91, of Smithfield, Utah, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026. Born on June 21, 1935, in Millville, Utah, to Edvard and Amanda Larsen, Betty lived a life defined by devotion—to her faith, her family, and her community. A devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and dear friend, Betty's gentle presence and unwavering kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
In 1961, Betty and John Reed were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple. Together, they shared a lifetime of partnership, laughter, and quiet strength. Together, they built a home filled with love, resilience, and the joyful chaos that comes with raising five children.
Betty spent many meaningful years in Wichita, Kansas, where she formed lasting friendships. Later, she lived in Plano, Texas, a chapter filled with community, family gatherings, and the warmth of hospitality. Eventually, she made her home in Smithfield, Utah, where she continued to share her kindness, steadiness, and quiet devotion with everyone around her.
A dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Betty served faithfully in numerous ward and stake callings throughout her life. Her commitment to the gospel was evident not only in her service but also in the way she lived—steadfast, humble, and full of love. She was blessed to serve two missions: one in Denmark in her twenties and another with her husband. Serving with John in the New Jersey Morristown Mission was one of the greatest joys of her life. Together, they touched countless lives with their kindness and testimony.
Betty also believed deeply in civic responsibility. She served her community as an election-day poll worker, helping ensure that every voice had the opportunity to be heard. Her sense of duty, both spiritual and civic, was a defining part of who she was.
Betty is survived by her husband, John, and their five children: Shauna, Robert, Linda, Paul, and Cecelia. She is also remembered by her beloved grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Bedste," short for bedstemor, the Danish word for grandmother. To them, she was a source of comfort, stories, hugs, and unconditional love—a steady light in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edvard and Amanda Larsen, and her siblings: Lenora, Edna, Edward, Dorothy, Waldemar, and Ray.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Smithfield 2nd Ward meetinghouse, 6521 North 2400 West, Almalga, Utah. A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate a life lived with grace. Interment will be at the Millville Cemetery.
The Reed family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their love, prayers, and support during this time.
