Today is my 44th birthday, and first birthday I can ever remember in which I have not received a birthday email, wishing me well, from Bonnie Rae. I feel that hole today. She also diligently remembered my wedding anniversarys. I'm not her child, but she made me feel I belong to her.
Her children babysit me and my siblings when we were young, and Bonnie Rae adopted all five of us bonus Weiler kids. The Larson family was my favorite, and I admired every one of them.
I have fond memories of Bonnie Rae's house: hot Sunday dinners with the whole family when my parents were out of town, Bonnie Rae shuffling around in a post-church house dress, a tennis ball hanging from a string in the garage so drivers knew just how far to pull in. The house was warm and welcoming, and I know that's because of the tone Bonnie Rae set.
I'm amazed she has supported, loved, and remembered me all these years later. Even in her final days she took time to send me and my siblings video messages. Her heart is so big. We love her so.
