Brenda Lorraine Garritson's Obituary
Our loving sister, aunt and great aunt, Brenda Lorraine Garritson, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2023 in Holladay, Utah at the age of 68. She was the daughter of Byron Orland Garritson and Shirley Davis Garritson. Brenda was born October 13, 1954 in Boise, Idaho.
Brenda was born with special needs that burdened her throughout her life. Yet, she was a cheerful and loving person who was always anxious to give and receive copious amounts of hugs. Brenda was always trying to help those around her despite her handicaps. She enjoyed doing baptisms for the dead in the Jordan River Temple. She helped others whenever possible in nursing homes and care centers. In the declining years of her parents, she cared for them as much as she could. She did dishes, the laundry and cleaned house for them. She was a great blessing to her mom and dad in their final years.
Brenda loved many activities in life, particularly swimming, bowling, coloring and painting pictures, riding a bicycle, “shooting hoops” and participating in the Special Olympics. She was very proud of the many medals she won. She also had the honor of lighting the torch at the opening ceremonies of the first Winter Special Olympics World Games in Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 1977.
Brenda spent her declining years at the Highland Care Center in Holladay. We would like to thank the staff and nurses there for the love and tender care she received.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Shirley. She is survived by her brother, Craig Garritson (Sandra) and nieces and nephews Kimberly Lloyd (Michael), Mark Garritson (Sheree), Stacy Heath (Nate), Christine De La Fuente (Gabriel), Ryan Garritson (Kandess) and seventeen grand -nieces and nephews.
Brenda's Christlike selflessness, love, and service to others is an example to us all. She is greatly loved and missed.
There will be a viewing at 10:00 am and funeral services at 11:00 am on Monday, March 13, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints Granite Ward, located at 9245 South Quail Run Dr, Sandy, Utah. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, Utah
