Brent Roger Johnson
November 4, 1939 – August 18, 2023
Brent Roger Johnson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather left this world on August 18, 2023, after a courageous battle with the ravages of Parkinson’s’ Disease. He was surrounded by his family including his Sweetheart, Charlene, his children Gregory(Janet), Rebecca(Mark), Jennifer(Lorin), and Michael(Joey), his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who filled his heart with pride and joy. Brent valued his family and faith as the basis for living his life and treasured the mission he served to New Zealand for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Brent was born on November 4, 1939, to Edith Pond and Elmer Leonard Johnson. He and his brother Gary and sister Dolores were raised in Salt Lake’s traditional Sugar House where Brent started his working career scooping double decker ice cream cones at Albertsons’ Grocery and got his first promotion by adding an extra scoop to owner Joe Albertsons’ cone.
Brent met his wife of 60 years at a Valentines Day dance, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 1, 1963. Brent Completed his education with a BS in Business Administration from the University of Utah. He then embarked on his chosen career as the owner and operator of Tourist Auto & Truck Transmission Warehouse, a family owned and operated business that served the transmission needs of the western United States for 93 years and provided his family with a legacy of service and honesty and hard work. As a member of the Air Force National Guard, Brent Served his country with loyalty and pride.
From Michael “My Dad lived a life of service. I cannot think of a time when I came home where he was not fixing the neighbor’s sprinklers, repairing their dishwasher, giving a free car repair where one was needed. He truly took care of his children and their families, and lived a life that he could be proud of. He truly was a man’s man and kept his word to himself, to others, and to the Lord.”
From Jenn “My dad was an incredible man. He loved Jesus Christ and church history so very much. He often gave the shirt off his back to someone who needed it. Several times in my life, we had someone staying in our home who needed a family for a time, and they were always welcome. He ran Tourist Auto and Truck Transmission shop until he was almost 80 years old. His kindness and generosity gained him so many lifelong friends. He was a father figure to so many of his children's friends who needed a steady, righteous hand in their lives. We will miss him so very much, but we believe in the Plan of Salvation and know we will see him again. We imagine the reunion he had in heaven with family and friends who had gone before. We are certain he and my brother, Greg, are already working together to restore a vintage car. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will never be forgotten. I love you dad!”
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday September 2, 2023, at Elysian Gardens Cemetery, 1075 East 4580 South. Following the service, friends and loved ones are invited to gather at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Crystal Heights Ward. 1970 East Stratford Ave (2500 South)
The Family would like to express their special thanks to all those who helped us through this last journey with such love and caring.
