Stacie Buck lit a candle in memory of Bruce Buck

I didnt know him long nor do I have a ton of memories. But some I do hold dear, he told me that love was something you don’t look for but you feel deep inside and you just know it’s there. I spent time with Bruce and his wife Sadie as if I was one of their other grandchildren, I even felt their love as such. He spent a lot of time watching Elvis Presley movies with me, and M*A*S*H* and just about any other old western. I remember sitting outside in his yard watching him move around cans of bolts and nails and whatever else was in them. I remember sitting with him and listening to all the stories he had to tell. I may not have been there in those final years but not a day went by that I didn’t think of you and my kids know of you. Thank you for loving me even though I was the terrible obnoxious girl from up the street , but if it weren’t for you my best friend of many years never would have been born. Plus you always kept all my secrets of sneaking out and as always being a terror!
My memories aren’t like those of others but they are mine and I’ll cherish them very dearly! I love you Bruce! Be at peace and tell Elvis I’m on my way!
We weren't very close from what I remember anymore anyway but you were always so sweet and accepted me like your own! You took such great care of my brother when no one else would... I'll always remember your kind words! I'm so sad i didn't make it in time to see you but im glad we had a good cry session last time I was there! I love you old man! Continue to take care of us from beyond the veil!
I've already had visitors and other reminders... 🤣
He wasn’t a perfect man, but a great man!He was my soft strength, he was rock, my anchor. He taught me how to be strong and a job worth doing is a job worth doing right! He taught me to ride my horse with pride! He taught me to walk tall and be proud of who I am! To embrace my own spirit, and not try to be to small, have a voice and a say! To wield my sword with power and meaning! That I am the magic this worlds is needing! To stand up for what is right! He will always be by my side the gentle voice in the wind reminding me you’ve got this sis! Remember who you are! He was not a perfect man but a great man! And I will love that man forever!

The man on the horse
He rode a grey horse that seemed more blue than grey with a dark black saddle adorned by studded diamond shaped steel rivets and tassels braided that hung from the back sides. He was a strong man not a very tall man but strong. He called his horse Old Blue. The man’s name was Bruce. He smelled of old spice and hay. He was a chatty man with a smile that would make anyone smile and a laugh that was contagious. He wore a worn out old hat that he’d broke in just right and always dressed the part of “The Cowboy” always wearing his boots even if he wore cut off cowboy boots they were always on.
He loved to tell stories about his life experiences and teach people new things.
His horse and he were famous for being seen in town and Old Blue looking more blue than grey. The funniest part between the two was Old Blue would get mad at Bruce and stretch out while putting his hoof on one of Bruce’s feet so he couldn’t move and then peeing all over him. Make no mistake though Bruce could take that horse off rein and be off his back walking ahead and that horse would follow him anywhere. It was as if they strolled in sync one leading the other footstep matching footstep. Even with the shuffles and the moments of breaks in between.
Those two were the best of friends and worst of enemies all in one.
Quarrels a many and loves a plenty.
He would saddle up Old Blue and say ok old boy let’s go for a gallop and off they’d go into the sunset riding like an old time western movie with holster in his side and a pack on the back. It was the most beautiful thing to behold.
So if you look to the sunset and see the man on the horse just know it’s Bruce and Old Blue give them a smile side nod and a wave. Just don’t be surprised if you hear Bruce yell let’s go Old Blue and, Blue reply with a neigh and a gallop.

Grumpy,
Your laugh was steady, low, and warm,
a sound that settled in my bones.
With you, I never had to ask—
you were my safe, unshakable home.
We’d watch old westerns late at night,
Disney classics you kept so near.
I’d curl up close and lose all track
of anything but being here.
You were the one who taught me
how to steady, breathe, and aim,
Right behind me, firm and quiet,
not just with a gun—but with my name.
Because you’ve always called me strong,
even when I couldn’t see it—
You cheered me on through every fall,
and made me believe I’d beat it.
And now I face the hardest truth,
the clock is running out too fast—
I don’t know how to hold this grief,
or how to stretch the past.
I ache to see your eyes light up
the day I hold my own small one,
Your legacy will live through them—
your laugh, your heart, your sun.
And when I wink, they’ll learn it too,
our sacred code, our thread—
I’ll teach them how your love was loud
in every word you said.
So Grumpy, if you have to go,
just know I’ll carry you inside—
Your pride, your love, your silly games,
the parts of you that never die.
And when the world feels big and cold,
I'll close one eye and send a sign—
A double blink, a wink, a smile...
From 007. One last time.
