C. Dan Bishop's Obituary
Our beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend, C. Dan Bishop, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the age of 76.
Dan was born Clyde Daniel Bishop on August 3, 1949, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was lovingly adopted and raised by his parents, Clyde and Flora Bishop, who provided him with a strong foundation of faith, hard work, and service that would shape the course of his life.
Dan grew up in Idaho and later served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in upstate New York. Following his mission, he attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, where he met the first love of his life, Debbie Bishop. They were sealed in the Oakland California Temple on August 10, 1971. Dan and Debbie shared fifty years of marriage, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary just one day before Debbie's passing.
After their marriage, Dan and Debbie began their life together in Rexburg before moving to Twin Falls, Idaho. Eventually, they settled in Orem, Utah, where they raised their family and built a life centered on faith, service, and hard work. They worked side by side in both family and business, creating a strong partnership and a life they cherished.
Dan and Debbie welcomed five children—four sons and one daughter. Dan was a loving and devoted father who taught his children the value of hard work, and showing up for others. Anyone who knew the Bishop family knew they were the people to call when a helping hand was needed. Dan led by example, always willing to lend his time, talents, and strength to family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers. His children fondly remember visits to the fire station where he worked, giving them a glimpse into the profession he loved.
Dan attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a degree in Health Sciences. He went on to serve his community as a firefighter, police officer, and paramedic for 23 years before retiring in 2003. Following his retirement from public service, he joined the family property management company, Mountain View Management, where he quickly became a professional at handling the endless adventures of college student housing—from lockouts and lost keys to roommate disputes and last-minute crises. Dan had a gift for connecting with people and approached every situation with patience, and a good sense of humor. He later became a real estate broker, continuing to serve others with the same dedication and honesty that defined every chapter of his life.
Dan enjoyed a variety of hobbies throughout his life and made many lasting friendships through them. He loved singing in a barbershop quartet and was an enthusiastic ham radio operator who enjoyed connecting with people near and far. Dan and his family spent countless happy days glamping in their trailer in Heber City, Utah, creating memories and enjoying the mountains. He also looked forward to his regular Friday night card games with friends, where the conversation was just as important as the competition. Dan had a special love for his dogs, who were constant companions and always held a cherished place in his heart. Dan found joy in life's simple pleasures and in the people—and pets—he loved most.
Dan was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings throughout his life. Perhaps his most rewarding service was as Bishop of his ward, a role he fulfilled with compassion, dedication, and unwavering faith. The lighthearted joke of "Bishop Bishop" never seemed to grow old and often brought a smile to those around him. Dan was a blessing to his neighbors and ward members alike, always willing to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or quiet acts of service that reflected his love for others.
After years of searching and countless hours devoted to genealogy, Dan found the birth family he had long hoped to know when DNA testing became more popular. Although he learned that his birth mother had already passed away, he discovered several birth siblings who became an unexpected and cherished blessing in his life. The connection they shared was instant. Anyone meeting them would have assumed they had been raised side by side. In one of life's most beautiful full-circle moments, they were amongst the family at Dan's bedside, surrounding him with love as he passed from this life.
Dan was fortunate to find love a second time and married Dianne Ingram Bishop on May 6, 2023, in Orem, Utah. Dianne brought companionship and care into Dan’s later years, and together they made it a priority to spend as much time together as possible, understanding how quickly time passes. Although their time together was not as long as they had hoped, she was an important part of his life and provided him comfort, support, and happiness in his final years. They treasured the life and dreams they shared and encouraged others to cherish their spouses and the moments they have together
Dan is survived by his wife, Dianne; his five children, Chris, Todd, Amy (Bliss), Brad, and Mark; 12 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by his wonderful birth siblings, Skip, Ella, David and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Debra ("Debbie"); his parents, Clyde & Flora; and his sister, Willa.
