Cameron Luis Jex's Obituary
Cameron Luis Jex
March 5, 1992 – October 29, 2025
Cameron Luis Jex was born on March 5, 1992, in Puerto Asís, Colombia, where he was lovingly nicknamed “Morocho.” On May 2, 1995, he and his brother Tyler were adopted by Rodney Jex and Connie Spanton-Jex and moved to Maryland. In August of 1999, the family moved to Utah, where Cameron spent the remainder of his childhood and teenage years.
From the very beginning of his life with Rod and Connie, Cameron showed a deep love for music and singing. He quickly picked up American Sign Language and expressed himself creatively in many ways. Cameron dreamed of becoming a rap star and was constantly writing, freestyling, and making music. As an adult, he chose the nickname “SpeakEZ,” reflecting his voice, his words, and his passion for storytelling through music. He was always full of ideas—imagining new projects, businesses, and ways to change the world. He was a shaman and a magician, and had a lifelong love for Harry Potter, embracing imagination, spirituality, and the mystical.
Cameron will be remembered as a huge ball of energy with a happy-go-lucky spirit, always up for fun and silliness. He made people laugh easily and carried a contagious smile. He had a well-known love for Coca-Cola, was always willing to help out, and was deeply protective of those he loved. He was never bothered by his little sister, Brianna (“Bree”), tagging along and always looked out for his siblings, cheering them on no matter the circumstances. Cameron often reassured those closest to him that he would figure everything out and take care of everyone.
Growing up, Cameron learned to clog and enjoyed competing for a time, including spending a season clogging alongside Lexie and Parker at NRG. He also loved hockey and skateboarding. He was a fan of the Baltimore Ravens, having attended a Ravens spring practice as a child in 1998, where he was lifted into the air with one hand by Tony Siragusa while standing next to Jim Harbaugh.
Cameron graduated from Hunter High School in 2010 and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps, a chapter of his life that reflected courage, commitment, and his desire to belong and serve. Throughout his life, Cameron faced challenges—many beyond his control—in a system that was not always built to help him succeed. Even so, he continued striving, creating, and dreaming of better things, leaving behind ideas and inspiration that will continue to ripple outward.
Cameron shared an especially close and cherished bond with his Grandpa Bernie Calloway. The two got along like two peas in a pod, sharing laughter, conversation, and many fishing memories together. There is comfort in imagining their joyful reunion.
Cameron is survived by his mother, Connie Spanton-Jex, and his father and step-mother, Rodney and Becky Jex. He is also survived by his siblings: Tyler Jex, Lexie Jex, Brianna Jex, Austin Jex, and Parker (Anna) Jex. He will be lovingly remembered by his niece, Eden Modderman; his nephews, Kolson Christiansen and Atlas Jex; his grandmothers, Patsy Jex and Carol Spanton; and loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his biological mother, Virginia Trinidad Riascos; and his grandparents Burt Spanton, Joanne Calloway, Bernie Calloway, Joy Jex, and Brent Jex.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on January 9, 2026, inside the chapel at the Utah Veterans Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service with military honors and dedication at 12:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to come and share their favorite memories of Cameron—his freestyles, his laughter, his big ideas, and the love he shared so freely. We know that somewhere beyond this life, Cameron is still dreaming, freestyling, creating, and riding a skateboard.
