Carl John Elskamp's Obituary
Bountiful, UT – Carl J. Elskamp, 72, passed away Aug. 18th, 2022. He was born on July 26th, 1950 in Potosi, Wisconsin, the son of Mahlon & Hannah Elskamp.
Carl graduated from Potosi High School, Class of 1968. Following graduation, he attended University of Wisconsin at Platteville and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Class of 1972. He married his high school sweetheart, Judy Shea, on June 5th, 1971. They celebrated 51 years of marriage and built a wonderful life together.
Carl was an Industrial Hygienist Chemist with US Department of Labor, where he made lifelong friends, retiring in 2008. His passion for helping shined through and he was proud to be able to make an impact on others who were faced with devastation. He enjoyed sharing stories about his work in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Carl was enthusiastic about learning, especially new technology. His ability to problem solve and find ways to fix or repair things was remarkable. He also was referred to as the “gadget guy” when he visited friends and family in Wisconsin because he was always sharing his new tools and skills. He was the man people called when they wanted help with anything.
Carl was an avid football fan and enjoyed going to different stadiums with his son and family to cheer on the Utes as well as the Green Bay Packers. He had a special connection with his granddaughter Avah often speaking their own language “Arber-Darber.”
Carl loved being outdoors working on landscaping, golfing, fishing, and hunting. He had an innate ability to create memorable experiences for everyone. He was an in-depth storyteller and was a very dependable man with a welcoming personality.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Leo, Mark, and Gary, two sisters Susan and Mary and brother-in-law Joel Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Judy (Shea) Elskamp, his daughter Cody Elskamp (Jeff) of West Jordan, Utah, his son Chad Elskamp (Stefanie) of Woods Cross, UT, grandchildren Teagun and Avah; his sister, Marion Mason of Lancaster WI; brother Neil (Barb) Elskamp of Chetek, WI; his sister Esther (Tim) Hesse of Lodi, WI; his brother Keith Elskamp (Becky) of Potosi, WI, sisters-in-law Shirley, Mary Lou, and Kathy and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the care givers at Huntsman Cancer Institute, especially nurse Blaire.
A Catholic funeral mass will be held 11 AM August 29, 2022 at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Bountiful Utah.
