Carlos Tirado's Obituary
At 11:25 pm, on December 23, 2025, at the age of 97, Carlos departed from this world at his house in Sandy, Utah surrounded by his family.
Carlos was born in Pangua, El Corazon, Ecuador on November 6, 1928 to Cesar Tirado and Maria Elisa Lozano. He enrolled to serve in the military at 18 years old, and he moved to Quito, where he was married to his wife Fanny Tobar and built their home together in the Quito Norte neighborhood. He worked at Laboratorios Industriales Farmaceuticos Ecuatorianos (LIFE) for over 30 years. Carlos and his wife moved to Utah in 2000 to be close to their children. After moving to Utah, he spent time caring over his mother-in-law, Sofia Barrionuevo, and his granddaughter Sofia.
Carlos is survived by his spouse of over 61-years, Fanny Tobar, and their three children. His oldest son, Carlos Tirado Jr, and his future wife Amy Bye, and his future grandchildren, Clara, Abbie, Henry, and Helen. His daughter, Ximena Facer and her spouse Geoff Facer, and their children Diego and Sammy. And, his youngest son, Luis and his wife Shelley, and his grandchildren Sofia and Alvi, and Jaiden and Adriana.
Although he always missed Ecuador, his ties to Utah grew stronger after his granddaughter Sofia was born. After Ximena and her family relocated to California for work, Carlos and Fanny moved in with Luis and his family, and he got the opportunity to spend quality time with Sofia. Their bond was unbreakable. They did many things together, from walking her to and from school, watching her church performances, or going with her to soccer practices. Carlos loved this time, as he did not carry the heavy weight of being the provider, and he was able to just be grandpa.
During his last year of life, his oldest son Carlos Jr. was blessed to be able to live with them and spend days and nights by their side. There were good days and bad days. Much of this time was spent taking him to doctors appointments, but also very special moments, like enjoying Sunday times at church, where he loved to see the people, watch the children sing, and feel the spirit of the Lord. Even at his 97 years of age, he kept Carlos Jr. awake during service, and would tap him on the arm, telling him to pay attention.
Carlos was an example of dedication, hardwork, and perseverance. Against all odds, he saw his three children graduate from College, something he was very proud of, as he was only able to complete a second-grade education himself. He loved his family, especially his wife Fanny who watched and cared for him even during his most challenging times, and who stood by him until his last breath. He loved his grandchildren, as they brought him joy and laughter. He loved his family, and extended family. He always asked about his brothers, sisters, cousins, relatives, and always cared for and wished them well.
During his last years of life, we are extremely thankful to every person, every caregiver, and every company that helped him and aided him for many years. There are so many people who we cannot mention each by name, but you know who you are and you know how much care and love you shared with him. For every minute you spent caring for him, we thank you deeply!
