Carol Lynn Patterson's Obituary
Carol Lynn Patterson, age 76, passed away peacefully in her sleep on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2026, in South Jordan, Utah, with family nearby in her final hours. True to Carol’s style, she began the year—and her next adventure—quietly, gracefully, and on her own terms.
Carol was born on September 19, 1949, in Flint, Michigan, to Marget and Charles Patterson. She was the second oldest of four children and grew up surrounded by siblings, laughter, and lifelong family bonds. She is survived by her brothers Alan Patterson, Charles (Mary) Patterson, and Ronald (Debbie) Patterson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marget and Charles Patterson, and her sister-in-law Leslie Patterson.
Carol was fiercely proud of her academic achievements—and rightfully so. She earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and her Master’s degree in Social Work from Michigan State University, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA in both programs. She carried that same dedication and heart into every part of her life.
Her faith was deeply important to her. Carol loved Jesus and spent time serving in a therapy ministry at Assembly of God Church, offering compassion, empathy, and encouragement to others.
Carol had a special love for the beach and the ocean—especially sunsets, crashing waves, and the peace that came from simply listening to the water. She also loved to sing and dance, most often in the bathroom, where perhaps she felt the acoustics were clearly superior. She approached life with a whimsical spirit, never taking things too seriously and always leaving room for joy, humor, and a little sparkle.
Carol is survived by her two sons, Elliott (Jill) Patterson and Jason (Holly) Patterson, whom she loved deeply. Though she once wished for a daughter, her wish was beautifully fulfilled when her sons gave her four granddaughters—her greatest joy. Carol leaves behind Emma, Brooke, Skylar, and Olive Patterson, each of whom held a very special place in her heart.
Carol’s legacy is one of love, faith, intellect, laughter, and a longing to witness sunsets over the water. She will be deeply missed, and fondly remembered, by all who knew her.
