Carol Pickett Stillman's Obituary
Carol P. Stillman, passed away in the early morning of May 23, 2013 after a second battle with colon cancer. Only 68 years old, our sister, aunt and friend left us much too early. Carol was born on September 30, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Although she began and ended her life in Utah, she saw much of the world during her lifetime. She grew up in a military family, living in Tacoma, Washington; Germany; Dothan, Alabama; upstate New York; Sierra Vista/ Ft. Huachuca, Arizona; and Fairbanks, Alaska, where she graduated from high school. She looked at the many re-locations as great adventures. Carol, known for her strong will and spunk, excelled at every hobby and career she tackled. She spent 20 years as a flight attendant with Frontier Airlines and saw much of the United States. She gained many good friends and associates, enjoying “dead days” in Colorado, and Washington. Carol was married to Clyde Stillman for some years, who is now deceased. During the 1970’s, she raised and showed Arabian horses, achieving countless ribbons and awards. Her first battle with colon cancer came in 1986. Her strength and courage carried her through and she successfully won that initial war. At 42 years old, Carol chose to return to school. She attended full-time, not even taking summers off. She transferred to the University of Utah, receiving an honors scholarship. She graduated with honors with an accounting degree and secured a job with Northwest Pipeline. When she retired, she turned to loan processing. Retirement also gave her the time to spend on her great love of animals, particularly West Highland Terriers. She bred, groomed, and professionally showed West Highland Terriers and achieved 10 championships. Carol is survived by her father, Ellis Pickett (Lowa), five siblings, Craig Pickett (Virginia), Leslie Higgins (Chip), Kathy Pickett, Diane Pickett-Barkow, Mark Pickett (Jeanene) and nine nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Maxine Rowena Duncan Pickett. The family would like to give a special thank you to Trudy and Lew Ross and their daughter, Megan, for all of their hands-on care, love and support to Carol and her family A celebration of life service will be forthcoming this summer.
