Caryl Ann Woodward Davies' Obituary
Caryl Ann Woodward Davies, 84, of Orem, Utah, unexpectedly passed away April 9, 2025.
She was born in Shelley, Idaho on December 21,1940 as the second child of James Joel Woodward and Bernetta May Walker. Caryl was an excellent student valuing her education and all relationships she developed at Shelley schools, Ricks College, and at Utah State University; where she received a degree in education. Upon graduation she accepted a position to teach middle school home economics in Los Angeles, California. This was a huge change from the life she knew growing up in her small agricultural town where she picked potatoes and floated in irrigation canals.
Dan and Caryl met in 1965 at a dinner held between sessions of stake conference. They were engaged 2 weeks after they met, and married just a few months later on November 24, 1965 in the Los Angeles temple.
After their wedding Dan and Caryl looked forward to starting an eternal family. Their children Jon, Jill, and Lynn were born in California. After moving to Jackson, Wyoming, Michael and Shanna were born. The family then moved to Utah Valley where Ryan and Melissa were welcomed to the family. Caryl’s children meant the world to her. She created a beautiful home for them where she prepared delicious, homemade meals, taught her children to care for and keep things clean, sewed clothing, and taught the gospel through her example of charity, forgiveness, tolerance, and faith. She supported Dan in his career by being the bookkeeper for his construction company.
Caryl was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served with all her heart in the various callings she held. Her favorite calling was that of a visiting teacher. She talked often of the women she had been visiting for many years. She cherished the friends she made in each of the places she lived.
Caryl was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Bernetta Woodward, her infant brother, who died at birth, and her sister, Lucille Stringham.
She is survived by her husband Dan and their children Jon, Jill (Cory) Daniels, Lynn (Cristy), Mike (Kammie), Shanna (Gary) Olsen, Ryan (Delilah), and Melissa (Ryan) Beck. She is also survived by her siblings, Shari Woodward, Janis Woodward and Kevin (Maria) Woodward.
Caryl was the loving grandmother to 30 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
The Davies family are so grateful for the love and care that has been shown to them by the Orem Park 4th Ward members for close to 50 years.
Caryl desired that no viewing be held. The family will be available for a short visit from 10:00 to 10:45 am on Monday, April 14, in the LDS chapel at 114 S 400 W, Orem, Utah. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am at the same location.
If you choose, flowers may be sent to the church instead of the mortuary.
