Cathy Holder's Obituary
Cathy Holder passed away peacefully March 11th surrounded by family in her sister Claudia's home. My mom was the strongest woman I know. She and my dad Bruce Jones divorced shortly after I was born. We lived in the "little house" in Draper until she met Larry Holder while working at Grand Central in Sandy. We moved to Sandy and she later married Lar.
Mom and Lar loved to camp in their 5th Wheel trailer. Camping season usually started out at Antelope Island for the buffalo round up after that the various Utah Camper Worlds were their home during the remaining camping season. She loved to host dinners for friends and family while camping that she would cook in her trailer's kitchen. Mom loved food and loved to cook.
Mom had a series of debilitating strokes in 2015. Larry passed away in December of 2015 from cancer at almost the same time Mom was having lifesaving surgery to prevent her from having further strokes. She lived in Sandy until a brain bleed forced her into the Cascades at Riverwalk skilled nursing facility in February of 2020.
She is survived by her parents James Clyde "Pop" and Ora Elsa "Grammy" Crane, me her son Justin (Tamala) her "grandbabies" Ally and Parker, brothers Richard "Tricky" (Gloria), Jim (Deb), Scott (Denese), sisters Connie and Claudia, Larry's 5 children Michael, Jeff, Nancy (Gary Pinnell) their daughter Vivian, Brad (Connie) their son Ben and daughter Maddie, and Scott, plus many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Larry Holder, and a brother-in-law, Claudia’s husband Brian Blackburn.
We would like to thank all those at Cascades who cared so dearly for Mom during the COVID pandemic that prevented us from seeing her and her Suncrest Hospice team, especially her nurse Michelle, CNA Sommer, and social worker Deanne.
You fought one hell of a fight over the last 5 years Mom. We all love you so much and are beyond grateful that you are now at peace once again going camping with Lar.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date as COVID restrictions continue to lift.
