Charles "Chuck" Edward Austin's Obituary
Charles Edward “Chuck” Austin died March 20, 2024 surrounded by his family and friends.
Chuck was born in San Diego, California on July 21, 1944 to Charles Augustus Dreher and
Alice Rubell Spencer. He was raised by Verner E. Austin and Alice Spencer Austin. He attended
Camden High School in San Jose, California and after graduation he enlisted in the United
States Navy where he served for four years. He married Carol Joan Emmons of Indiana in
December, 1967. Chuck and Carol welcomed their daughter Heather to the family in August of
1968.
From a young age Chuck enjoyed working on cars and anything mechanical and continued his
love of cars, working on his 1947 Ford until recently when his body would no longer allow him to
spend countless hours in his favorite place, his garage.
During summer times you would be surprised not to find Chuck spending his time outdoors. He
enjoyed gardening and taking care of his Koi pond.
Chuck was an active volunteer with Best Friends and Caws. He had a passion for dogs and
always looked forward to the holiday sessions when he would play Santa paws.
Chuck worked as a mechanic and a draftsman and finally retired from the Salt Lake City
Corporation as an Engineering Inspector.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife Carol and his daughter Heather Stevens; his grandchildren
Spencer Leigh (Molly), Ana’ Mooney and great-grandchildren Kayson Mooney, Jay and Dex
Mann-Leigh. He is also survived by his brother Spencer E. Austin (Rebecca). He was preceded
in death by his parents.
Chuck’s life will be celebrated at the Premiere Funeral Home on Saturday, March 30, 2024 with
a viewing from 11-12 noon followed by funeral services from 12-1:30 p.m. A lunch will be served
from 2-4pm at Cornerstone Church located at 7762 700 W, Midvale, UT 84047.
