Charles Glen Coon's Obituary
Charles “Chuck” Glen Coon was born on November 5, 1963, in Greeley, Colorado, to Louise and Jim Coon. He grew up primarily in Iowa, attending Gateway School in Fort Collins, Colorado, and later graduating from high school in Iowa City in 1983.
Throughout his life, Chuck lived in several places, including Iowa City, Ottumwa, and Delta City in Iowa, Colorado, and Montana, and was able to visit Oslo, Norway. He later moved to Orem, Utah, in 2007, where he spent the remainder of his life. Chuck worked at the Iowa City Public Library and for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many ways, including writing programs for ward Sunday services and serving on the Delta City Council.
Chuck deeply valued family, friendships, his country, and community. He especially cherished time spent near extended family in Iowa and maintained lifelong friendships that followed him even to Utah. He was a loving brother, uncle, great-uncle, and great-great uncle known for his positive outlook, independence, humor, loyalty, and genuine kindness.
He enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes, outdoor activities, flight simulations, and living life to the fullest despite his challenges. Chuck brought joy to those around him and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother Cecilia “Louise” Coon, father Lloyd James Coon, and his brother George Pete “GP” Coon. He is survived by his brothers James William Coon and Lloyd Marvin Coon; his nieces Angie Coon, Tina Coon (Gene Cardall), and Crystal Coon; his nephew Eric Coon; and his great-nephews Sully Hoover, Skyler Coon, and Garinton Simpson, along with many extended family members.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24th, with a viewing beginning at 3:00 p.m., followed by services at 4:00 p.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lakeview 10th Branch, located at 2168 South 140 West in Orem. Burial will take place in Richland, Iowa, at Friends Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his mother and brother.
Charles was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
