Charles Joseph Coulon Jr's Obituary
Charles Joseph Coulon Jr graduated with honor on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at the Mervyn Sharp Bennion Veteran’s Home in Payson Utah. He was born October 26, 1926 in Washington DC to Charles Joseph Coulon, Sr and Caramella (Rose) Lagana.
Around the age of 5 he and his parents moved across the country and settled in Burbank California. He had many happy memories as a child there with his parents, friends and younger brother Ronnie who was born when he was 12. Charlie left Hollywood High School early and enlisted in the US Navy during the WWII conflict. He was happy to serve his country and did so for 3 years.
Charlie was married to Betty June Dickinson for 28 years. Together they raised their 5 children.
Charlie worked as a skilled Draftsman at Lockheed Martin for many years before The Boeing Company which he retired from.
He had many talents and hobbies including competitive ice skating, fishing, tie flying, painting, drawing, cooking, golfing, gardening, reading, traveling and wood working to name a few. Charlie always had a thirst for knowledge and a desire try new things. He believed, “we were put here for a special reason, to gain knowledge by our personal experiences and keep our lives in balance”.
He had unique and individual relationships with each of his children and grandchildren and truly liked as well as loved each one. He was a good listener and generous with an idea or advice as well. He had many phrases he could be heard saying. “Balance and control” was one he emphasized as good advice for life. Without balance life would become out of control.
He was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Charlie made friends easily and had many of them. He considered most people his “pal”. In his later years when getting around became difficult, he could be found watching Columbo and enjoying candy including a See’s sucker (one of his favorites).
Charlie will be missed but not forgotten! He is survived by his children, John (Julie) Coulon, Mike Coulon, Tony (Cynthia) Coulon, Donalee Penrod, and Charlene (Erik) Haneberg; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren with another on the way.
The family wishes to thank Stacy Hardy, Melissa Methena, the staff at the Mervyn Sharp Bennion Veteran’s Home in Payson and many others who provided excellent care to him during the last few years.
A family celebration of Charlie’s life and will be at a later date.
