“RED"
10/19/1931 – 2/20/2021
“I LOVE YOU MORE TODAY THAN I DID YESTERDAY AND I WILL LOVE YOU MORE TOMORROW THAN I DO TODAY”
Red was born on October 19, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Robert E. Gainer and Anna Pieper. He passed away peacefully at home in West Jordan, Utah on February 20, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Patricia Hanley, first wife Elvera Mary Ambrose, son Steven Gainer and grandson Taylor James (TJ) Gainer.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Verna “Dee” Gainer and his seven children: Monica Powers (Robert deceased), Tom Johnson (Susan), Sandy Jowett (Bob), Jim Gainer (Tammie), Lisa Gainer, Richie Gainer (Kim), Michael Gainer (Suzie) as well as 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way. He is also survived by his brother Robert E. Gainer, Jr (Margaret deceased) Mother-in-law Jackie Lawhon Curt (Ray deceased) and special daughters Bonnie Pettit (Ron), Teri Thomas and Charlotte Hoff. Red also had sisters/brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, many family members and friends he dearly loved.
Red was a very hard worker all of his life and his jobs/career spanned over 70 years. Red projected such a diverse range in what he chose to do including newspaper delivery, bowling pin setter, car service for elite clientele, company maintenance supervisor, hothouse entrepreneur and all culminated into his career as a Design Engineering Manager.
He lived a simple life enjoying his family and home. He never put a limitation on the things he liked to do. The things he enjoyed most was working in his yard, dancing, bowling, camping, food, watching western movies, game shows, family gatherings, game nights and especially drinking “Red’s Special Iced Tea”.
Red was known for his quick wit, humor and stubbornness. He lived his life with reliability, order and love. He was extremely proud to be a veteran serving his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
The family wishes to express our deepest appreciation to all the incredible individuals who work with Inspirations Hospice and VA Home Health Care. Their exceptional and compassionate care and friendship will always be a cherished memory for our family.
Interment of ashes at Camp Williams, Bluffdale, Utah will be posted at a later date.
