Charles William Penrose
1932 - 2022
After a long and wonderful life, Charles William Penrose completed his earthly mission on August 19, 2022. Charles was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 1, 1932. His parents are Vaughn Jensen Penrose and Phyllis Johnson Penrose. He was second of four children. He championed his older brother with Down syndrome and included him in his childhood and adolescent activities. He attended East High School, The University of Utah and graduated from Brigham Young University. He proudly served his country for two years during the Korean War. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served a mission in the British Isles and served in many callings.
On September 2, 1960 he married JoAnn Beasley in the Salt Lake Temple. They have a son and two daughters. He was employed by Beneficial Life Insurance Company as treasurer and retired from Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators.
He nurtured his firm testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ throughout his life and boldly shared it with others. He served 25 years in the Salt Lake and Bountiful temples. He was a Church-Service Missionary in member location for 21 years. He served as a tour guide on Temple Square for 11 years. He was a guide at the Utah State Capitol Building for 8 years and a docent at the Church History Museum for 25 years. He enjoyed learning about other cultures and meeting people from around the world. He learned phrases in many languages so he could greet international visitors to Utah in their native tongue.
He enjoyed uplifting music and sang in men’s and mixed choirs. He was proud of his family heritage and found joy in serving others. His life was centered on his family and his faith.
He is survived by his wife JoAnn, son Steve (Kathryn), daughter Elise (Rick Hutchinson), daughter Linda (Gary Clark), 15 grandchildren and younger brother Richard Penrose.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Woods Cross 3rd Ward meetinghouse at 1450 South 350 West in Bountiful, Utah.
