Charles Thomas "Tom" Yates Jr.'s Obituary
Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on 03 May 2019. After suffering a stroke almost 2 years ago, Tom’s health steadily declined until his body gave up the fight and he passed peacefully in his sleep.
Tom was born in Salt Lake City, UT to Charles Thomas Yates Sr. and Sarah Jane Lindsay. He was the youngest of 3 children and the only boy.
Tom graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, class of 1955. He married Marian Evans on January 16, 1958. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City temple. Together they had 3 children.
He was employed by Tempest Co., Grand Central Stores and Mountain States Textbook Depository until his retirement in 1999. A few years after he retired, he worked part time as a shuttle driver for Jerry Seiner.
Tom was an avid bowler and hunter for many years. He enjoyed camping and exploring. In his later years, he enjoyed trips to the Red Garter in Wendover, NV. His true love was his wife Marian but a close second was fishing. Nothing made him happier than time spent fishing and he was a pro! He could out fish anyone.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, daughters; Lisa (Dan) Cappelli of Bountiful and Lori (Tory) Gilbert of Lehi, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Lance, his mother, father and sisters Lois Reynolds and Dorothy Hood.
A viewing will be held Fri May 10th, 2019 from 9:30-10:45 at the LDS chapel 2064 S 800 W, Woods Cross, UT. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am the same day. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers contributions can be made to a memorial fund in his name at America First Credit Union.
