Cherie Lynn Poyfair Eldredge's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Cherie Lynn Poyfair Eldredge, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend and wife, on January 8th, 2025, at the age of 86. She left this world surrounded by her loving family as peacefully and gracefully as she lived in it.
Cherie was an angel among us, touching every life she encountered with kindness, warmth, and an unwavering love. Born on July 12th, 1938 in Portland Oregon to parents Darwin Avon Poyfair and Etta Maude Wells. She embraced life with an open heart and a zest for adventure. Her beauty—inside and out—was matched only by her boundless capacity for love and her innate ability to see the best in everyone.
She was the cherished wife of Joseph Lloyd Eldredge, with whom she shared 67 years of love and partnership. They met at BYU while enjoying their other love, music, in one of the college music groups. Together, they built a home filled with love and countless treasured memories. Cherie was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and enjoyed serving in many capacities, including going on multiple missions with her husband and serving in the temple.
Cherie was a devoted mother who poured her heart into raising her seven children, teaching them the values of love, kindness, generosity, faith and resilience. She was a beacon of light and love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored their Grandma and will forever remember her radiant smile and the way she made every moment special.
Cherie was also a mom to so many others beyond her family. She embraced life’s adventures with enthusiasm, whether it was leading a pack of teenagers toilet-papering, playing games well into the night, doing pranks at girls camp, organizing road shows, sewing wedding dresses and reupholstering car interiors. Cherie lived in a world of music. She sang with The Silhouettes, a Utah based singing group, for many years and could always be found playing the piano and organ while singing with her children and grandchildren. She offered a listening ear and kind words to whomever needed it. Her compassionate spirit and vibrant energy inspired all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Lloyd Eldredge, and their seven children and spouses; Joseph Lloyd Eldredge Jr. (Jeanine), Stephen James Eldredge, Gaylene Cherie Eldredge, Kristin Jessica Farnsworth (Ron), Bradley Poyfair Eldredge (Jennie), Michelle Russell (Matt) and Nicole Eldredge. She is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, one greatgreat-grandchild and two brothers, Ed Poyfair (Peggy) and Paul Poyfair (Carol). She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Skip Poyfair, his wife, Marlene Snyder, and sister Penny Poyfair Craner. Her posterity will continue to carry her legacy of love and kindness forward.
Cherie was a true angel on earth. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. We look forward to the joyful day when we will meet again.
